Tax File Number Declarations

Digital tax file number (TFN) declarations are no longer available to download through the ATO online. You can request a paper copy of the form online or by calling the ATO.

TFN declaration can now be completed online through the employee’s myGov. Alternatively, you or your employer’s accounting software may have the option to complete a TFN form online. Before completing the form, it is important to speak to your new employer/employees to ensure they are completing it accurately and their selected employment basis is correct. 

Completing the form online

Before you can complete the form online your ATO account must be linked to your myGov. The form can then be completed through myGov - ATO Online Services, it can be accessed via Employment – New Employment. You must have your employer’s Australian business number (ABN) and know your employment basis before you can begin the form. Additionally, for ease you can also complete a Super Choice Form with your TFN (you simply have to tick the box to add the form). Once complete, you are required to print the summary and provide to your employer.
